Top tip: always test new cleaning methods on a hidden area first
Use a soft brush (such as a paintbrush) to gently remove the outer layer of dust from the lampshade. Fill a container with cold water and mix in a few drops of clear washing up liquid until bubbles are formed.
Place one side of the lampshade gently into the water and lift. Use a soft brush to remove dirt, focusing on any difficult stains. Avoid soaking the fabric lampshade fully as this can damage the adhesive.
Use a soft, wet cloth to rinse the lampshade. Leave to air dry and only reattach it to the lamp once fully dry.
Top tip: run a lint roller over a lampshade to quickly remove dust while cleaning
It is important to ensure that paper and parchment lampshades do not come into contact with water, particulalrly if they have an adhesive steam.
Remove the lampshade and gently wipe with a dry cloth. To tackle dirt on the inside reflector bowl, spray a little white vinegar onto a corner of the cloth before wiping, taking care to avoid contact with the outer paper layer.
Top tip: remove any stains using a pencil rubber
