Chemicals to Avoid in Cleaning Products
Formaldehyde
This chemical is often found in hair straightening treatments, cosmetics, air fresheners and cleaning products. Commonly used as a preservative, low level exposure to this chemical can cause skin and throat irritation as well as asthma.
Indoors, formaldehyde can also be produced by gas fires and cookers.
2-Butoxyethanol
2-Butoxyethanol is a chemical often found in cleaning products such as glass cleaners, liquid soaps and all-purpose spray cleaners. The colourless liquid is known to give cleaning products a sweet, floral-like fragrance.
Known to add to indoor air pollution, the chemical can enter your body by breathing it in or through skin contact.
Ammonia
Ammonia is often found in cleaning products due to its ability to effectively cut through grease and dirt. It also evaporates quickly which prevents streaks. You can find this chemical in cleaning products such as oven cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners and window and glass cleaners.
Direct exposure to ammonia-based cleaning products can cause respiratory problems and irritate eyes and skin. Furthermore, toxic gas is produced if ammonia is mixed with bleach. If you use harsh chemicals to clean the property then ensure that the space is well-ventilated.
Airburst is the ultimate disinfectant system for your home, office or holiday let. This natural disinfectant is safe for allergy-sufferers and actively removes dust and pollen from the air while disinfecting the surroundings.
