How to Clean a Vacuum
Empty the contents
To keep your vacuum working well, it’s important to empty the contents regularly to prevent the overflow of dust that can prevent your vacuum from working well.
If your vacuum uses a disposable bag simply remove the bag and throw it away. We recommend emptying it over a bin bag or wooden surface to catch any spills.
Disassemble the parts
Gently remove as many parts of the vacuum as you can to prepare for a thorough deep clean. If you’re unsure about how to start, you can always search for an instruction manual or instruction video for your vacuum for guidance.
Wipe down the vacuum
Turn off the vacuum and remove the plug from the socket.
Fill a container with hot water and mix in a teaspoon of dishwasher liquid (or add half a cup of white vinegar for a natural disinfectant solution).
Dampen a soft cloth in the mixture and gently wipe the vacuum, ensuring that it does not drip onto any electrical parts.
Inspect belt and attachments
If your vacuum doesn’t have a self-cleaning function, check the motor belt and remove any tangled material with small, sharp scissors. Wipe away any dust on the belt and check for elasticity. If you notice that the band is looking worn, consider ordering a replacement before it breaks.
Reassemble
Wipe down all parts using a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture and assemble the parts gently. If you notice that your vacuum has a slight smell, add a few drops of essential oil into the filter to cover any odours.
