Shorter days and longer, colder evenings mean that we’ll be spending more time indoors with the heating on. However, closed windows can create a breeding ground for dust mites and germs which can become harmful if left untreated. The poor ventilation can also lead to mould and damp in rooms with high levels of moisture, causing potential damage in the future. Discover reasons why winter cleaning is so important and stay on top of your cleaning to keep germs at bay.

As temperatures drop, you may notice that more time is spent in hot showers and baths. Over time, this will add to the build up of soap scum and grime that can be difficult to remove if left for long periods of times.
During the winter season, consider tackling these soap stains by spraying white vinegar onto a little baking soda to cause a fizzing reaction and leaving to soak on any scum stains. This will effectively remove and grease and dirt build-up without using harsh chemicals that need to be rinsed away.
You can also spray white vinegar on the shower and bath and leave to work until it’s next use.
During the winter months, the few hours of direct sunlight throughout the day can be central to heating up a south facing room. However, dirty windows can reduce the amount of sunlight entering the room and make a space feel less light and airy.
During winter, allow as much light and warmth into your property by keeping windows clean. Check out our handy window cleaning blog for a detailed guide on cleaning windows without using harmful chemicals.
Cold temperatures outside cause condensation in thousands of properties. If not dealt with properly, the condensation can lead to damp and mould issues with the potential for harmful health effects.
Condensation happens when warm air collides with a cool surface, making it a common problem in winter months. Furthermore, the lack of open windows and use of central heating and showering can trap warm air and circulate it inside, heightening the risk of condensation.
During the winter months, aim to open windows for a short period of time each day. As well as allowing fresh air to enter your home, it also reduces the risk of condensation and the build-up of germs indoors.
If you do notice signs of mould, you can tackle them by spraying white vinegar onto the mould spores (try on a hidden area if spraying on a new surface) and leaving to soak for at least ten minutes. Find more environmentally ways to remove mould in this handy guide.
