Fabric sofas are a key component of a cosy living room. With many people using their sofa every day, it should be at the top of the list for things to be cleaned regularly.
However, many people forget this and enjoy their upholstery without understanding how often it needs to be cleaned.
We’ve put together some key reasons as to why you should keep on top of your upholstery cleaning to help make your home a cleaner space.
Allergens
Dust mites are small bugs that nest in fabric surfaces such as sofas and blankets at home.
We recommend vacuuming your sofa on a regular basis (using an HEPA vacuum) to ensure that the strong suction removes any potential dust mites and eggs.
Not only will this help remove any pests efficiently, but it will also help reduce the risk of allergens through the removal of mites and dust that has built up which circulates the air of the room.
Bacteria
Upholstery can carry a variety of hidden germs despite it looking clean and looked after.
You could use a steam cleaner to remove and extract germs from upholstery surfaces and to keep furniture smelling and looking more healthy,
You could also create a mixture of half a bottle of vinegar and olive oil and spray it lightly onto your sofa before wiping away with a cloth. This homemade solution will help to disinfect furniture, whilst also dissipating any vinegar smells shortly afterwards if windows are left open.
Mould
Mould thrives in damp environments and can easily grow on fabric surfaces if left in dark and damp conditions.
One way to help remove any mould that has grown on upholstery is by leaving furniture outside on a dry day.
You can also help to brush the mould of indoors, using a mask, and hoovering any remains afterwards. However, this can trigger any allergies that you may have unless it is done outdoors.
