Whiteboards are a staple piece of office equipment, helping staff members keep track of important information and mindmap key ideas easily.
However, many workers are unaware that simply removing content from a whiteboard when it is no longer needed will not keep it clean.
This often leads to a grubby, grey whiteboard which is covered in smears and stains.
These top tips focus on helping you to restore your whiteboard to its pristine condition and keep it that way!
Use A Cleaning Solution
Many whiteboards come with maintenance instructions which include guidance on a cleaning solution that works best on the board.
Invest in this solution and keep it handy when erasing content from the board.
You could also make your own cleaning solution using isopropyl and water to help keep the board clean in between uses.
The use of a cleaning solution, rather than solely a dry rubber, will help ensure that any marks are immediately removed well and prevents remnants of ink being left on the board.
Clean Frequently
With many boards being used often throughout the day, content which is left on the board for longer periods of time can build up residue, making it difficult to remove.
This residue can leave a gloss on the board, and show a faint outline of old content which can make it harder to read more recent items.
One way to prevent this from happening is by cleaning the whiteboard thoroughly at least once a week, and re-writing content to prevent build up.
Remove Permanent Marker
Most whiteboards have an area which has stained the board due to the accidental use of a permanent marker.
If this happens, we recommend re-writing over the permanent marker using a dry marker and rubbing the ink with a suitable board cleaning solution.
Avoid using abrasive or harsh chemicals as this can ruin the surface of your whiteboard.
You could also try to remove stains using a microfibre cloth and baby wipes or nail varnish remover.
However, every whiteboard is different so make sure to test on a small area prior to tackling the stain.
