The first step of learning how to get rid of fruit flies is to address the source. The most common areas that fruit flies are led towards are:
-overripe fruit or vegetables
-spills that weren’t cleaned straight away
-sink drains
-damp cleaning supplies such as cloths or sponges
Dispose of the source immediately, emptying the bin outside rather than keeping it in the property. To tackle smelly sinks, pour one cup of baking soda down the drain and follow with two cups of white vinegar. This will effectively clean the debris in your drains and remove bad odours.
Top tip: fruit flies typically lay their eggs on rotting food but can also breed in wet, damp areas such as mop buckets and bins. Use white vinegar to clean your kitchen surfaces regularly to keep surfaces as clean as possible.
Apple cider vinegar is a cheap and effective way to create an environmentally friendly trap for fruit flies.
