How to clean office blinds (vertical)
Vertical office blinds are often made with a thin fabric material. Always spot-test soap or detergent on a hidden area prior to cleaning.
Materials:
Large bucket or bathtub
Sponge
Gentle soap (and environmentally friendly detergent for any tough stains)
Large surface (such as a table or floor without obstructions)
2 microfibre cloths
Optional: hair dryer
Use a damp microfibre cloth to gently remove as much dust as possible prior to cleaning.
Remove the blinds from the main rail. Do this gently by unhooking and unclipping every blind and placing it on a surface nearby.
Fill a large bucket or bathtub with warm water and mix in a little soap until bubbles form. Check that the water is warm, not hot, as hot water may melt any glue on the blinds.
Place one blind into the container at a time. Do not place all the blinds in at once as prolonged exposure in water could rinse off any fire-retardant coatings.
Use the sponge to gently rub the bubbles and warm water in circular motions until the dirt is washed off.
If you notice some stubborn stains, add a little clear or white detergent onto the sponge and apply it to the stain.
Rinse the blind using a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.
Lay the blinds on a surface to dry. Do not hang the blinds up immediately as they may shrink. If you are concerned about particularly wet patches use a hairdryer (on cool mode) to dry out the blinds a little more.
Once the blinds are completely dry, hang them up and notice how much brighter your office looks!
We recommend following these tips on how to clean office blinds a few times a year to keep on top of the build-up of dust. In between cleans dust can be removed using compressed air or a slightly damp cloth.
