Energy Saving Tips
Avoid Stand-by mode
With many electronic devices using energy on standby-by mode, switching off appliances at the wall can reduce your electricity usage when you’re not using them.
Where possible, consider turning all appliances off at the wall to lower energy usage. You can also invest in timed plugs to do this for you at chosen times of the day.
Re-consider heating
In warmer months, consider turning the heating off one hour earlier to reduce your costs over time.
You can also ensure that heat is trapped in rooms by closing any blinds or curtains in the evening (as long as curtains aren’t covering any radiators).
If your property has a chimney, look into options to reduce the draught and prevent any heat from escaping.
Kitchen energy saving tips
These saving tips can be applied to kitchens in offices, holiday lets and homes to reduce your carbon footprint and energy bills.
Defrost the freezer regularly to prevent the build-up of frost. Defrosting your freezer regularly will reduce the risk of your freezer using more energy to keep a cool temperature and in turn, lower your energy usage.
Use a small pan for heating food. The smaller the pan, the quicker the pan will heat up and less energy will be used. This simple trick can reduce hours of cooking time on your hob over the year.
Similarly, aim to boil only as much water as you need when using the kettle. Not only will this make the kettle boil quicker, but it will also reduce the amount of energy used per boil.
