Dust is made from a combination of elements such skin cells, hair, dirt and pollen. When left untreated, dust becomes the perfect breeding environment for dust mites.
Dust mites are microscopic creatures that feed on dead human skin cells. Dust mite allergies are common and can cause sneezing, coughing, itching, eczema and asthma. These allergens can be supressed through regular and thorough dusting.
Due to gravity, dust will always travel downwards which is why it's important to always dust from top to bottom. We recommend dusting the highest places first (such as windows, frames and ceilings) to allow for excess dust to fall and get collected when dusting lower areas. Always finish by vacuuming or sweeping the floors.
This can also be applied to tackling the upstairs levels in the property first before repeating the process on lower floors.
Top tip: When dusting with a microfibre cloth, always dust in one direction to prevent releasing more dust into the air.
Wooden polish can be a great way to remove the build up of dust while restoring a shine. However, take care to follow the instructions on the label and avoid overusing the polish. Adding too much polish when dusting can leave a sticky surface that will gather dust more quickly over time.
Instead, use a dry microfibre cloth to buff at the polished area to remove any cloudy build-up from the surface.
Entrance mats are a great way to trap dirt, debris and dust and reduce the amount that gets brought into the property.. Place an entrance mat at all entry points and vacuum regularly to prevent the build-up of dust on them. Outdoor mats should be hosed down and shaken out frequently to keep them clean.
