Cleaning with lemons
Polish pots and pans
Cleaning with lemons can reduce your scrubbing time when tackling difficult stains on aluminium pots and pans.
Slice a lemon in half and dip it into salt. Rub in a circular motion to remove any tarnish and grime. The citric acid of the level and salt work together to remove stains and make your pots and pans sparkle again.
Descale your kettle
If you use your kettle regularly, you may notice a build-up of limescale over time. Instead of purchasing a chemical cleaner use lemons for a fast, natural clean.
Cut a large lemon into four pieces and place the slices into the kettle. Fill halfway with water and boil. Let the water cool and leave the mixture to sit for at least thirty minutes before rinsing out with cold water.
Remove soap scum
Soap scum is a mixture of residue (such as shower gel) and minerals present in water. Cleaning with lemons can make the removal of soap scum easy and effective.
Cut a lemon in half and use it to scrub at soap scum. After scrubbing, leave the lemon juice to act for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water. Repeat as necessary.
Clean hard floors
If you have pets, children or an allergy to toxic chemicals, a lemon floor cleaner is a great alternative to harmful chemical cleaners.
Mix one part vinegar with one part lemon juice and two parts cold water. Use this mixture to scrub at the floor and remove dirt. The vinegar smell with dissipate quickly and can be aired out if windows are opened.
Remove bad microwave smells
Microwaves build up grease and food residue over time which can create bad odours. Luckily, cleaning with lemons is an effective way to loosen the grease and make it easy to wipe away.
Pour some water into a bowl with two lemon halves. Place the bowl into the microwave and heat until water is boiling. The steam mixed with citric acid will loosen any dirt and grime while removing bad odours.
Carefully remove the bowl and use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt on the inside of the microwave.
