Completed in 1895, Tynemouth pier lighthouse is a Grade II listed building located at the end of a 900 metre long pier. Open during daylight hours and calm weather, visitors can enjoy gorgeous views of Tynemouth Priory and Castle having braced the windy walk to the end of the pier. The lighthouse dates back to Victorian times and stands at 26 metres high. The light can be seen from tens of miles away and the postcode to visit is NE30 4DD.
Located on the tiny St Mary's Island, St Mary's lighthouse was completed in 1898 for shipping purposes and remained operational until 1984. Today, visitors can climb the 137 steps to gain access to stunning views over the North East coast. The former keepers' cottages have been converted to a visitor centre featuring local exhibits on the history of the lighthouse. The lighthouse stands at 46 metres high and can only be accessed via a short concrete causeway in low tide.
Built in 1907, Blyth east pier lighthouse is a distinctive white tower built to aid ships entering the harbour. Following a £20,000 makeover in 2016, the historic landmark was restored to its former glory. The postcode for the lighthouse is NE24 3HF.
Built in the 19th century, Berwick lighthouse is located at the end of a stone pier. The lighthouse stands at 13 metres tall and while it is closed to the public, visitors can enjoy a scenic 30 minute stroll across the pier with benches available to take in the stunning views.
Built in 1910, Bamburgh lighthouse guided ships in the waters around the Farne Islands. While the lighthouse tower has been removed, the charming landmark stands at metres high is still well worth a visit for its scenic views of Bamburgh castle.
