To get mud out of carpet easily you will need:
-Empty spray bottle
-Metal spoon
-Warm water
-Vacuum
-Laundry detergent or washing up liquid (ideally clear)
-Soft cloth
-Sponge
The first step to tackling mud on a carpet is to leave it to fully dry. If you try to clean wet mud then there is a chance of spreading the mud around the area and causing more damage and discolouration to the carpet. Leave the mud to dry naturally for at least one hour.
Once dried, vacuum the mud on the carpet. We recommend vacuuming slowly over the area to ensure that all the necessary debris and dirt is picked up.
Top tip: Use a hose attachment to pick up smaller debris
Use a spoon, or a similar metal object, to scrape away the top layer of the remaining mud. This will loosen the mud particles in the carpet fibre and make it easier to remove. After scraping, vacuum the area once more. Repeat the process until the majority of the mud has been lifted and you cannot scrape any more mud off.
Mix one tablespoon of detergent or washing up liquid with two cups of warm water in a spray bottle. Shake thoroughly until the fully mixed and bubble suds appear.
Top tip: test this solution on a hidden spot of your carpet prior to tackling the stain as this may cause further discolouration.
Spray the solution onto a soft cloth and dab the cloth on the mud. Add more cleaning solution to the cloth as required and dab until the stain is covered.
Leave to soak for 5 minutes. Use a soft sponge to soak up the liquid until almost dry. You should notice the mud stain lifting easily. Repeat this process until the mud stain has disappeared.
Finally, blot the stain with a damp sponge to remove any remaining cleaning solution and leave to dry naturally.
