How to Clean Furniture using Baking Soda
How to clean soft furniture
Use a dry brush with natural bristles to remove any immediate loose particles such as dust and dirt. This will bring the particles to the surface and make it easier to remove them.
Sprinkle baking soda over the soft furniture to remove nasty odours and loosen stains or marks.
Vacuum the sofa, ideally with a hand-held vacuum, to fully remove the remains of baking soda and any loose dust and dirt.
For any deep-set stains, mix equal parts of baking soda and water into a bowl and gently spread over the stain. Leave to sit for thirty minutes. Then dampen the corner of a soft cloth (we recommend using a microfibre cloth) and gently remove the baking soda mixture.
Top tip: make sure to fully wring out the cloth until is damp (rather than soaking wet) prior to using it on soft furniture.
How to clean plastic furniture
Particularly with light-coloured plastic furniture, we recommend cleaning up any spillages as soon as possible to prevent stains.
Use a dampened microfibre cloth to wipe away dust and dirt.
For tougher stains, mix equal parts of baking soda and water into a bowl and gently spread over the stain. Leave to sit for thirty minutes. Then use a dampened soft cloth to rub the baking soda in circles and remove baking soda residue.
To remove darker marks, mix a solution of one part white vinegar with one part warm water and spray over the plastic furniture. Leave to sit for a few minutes and sprinkle baking soda over the stain to cause a fizzing reaction. Repeat these steps until the stain has been fully lifted.
Top tip: Avoid using harsh materials to clean plastic furniture as this can easily scratch the surface to cause permanent damage.
