As more employees begin to return to the office,
stricter hygiene measures
are being implemented to keep the workplace safe.
According to an article published by BBC News in October 2020, the virus that causes COVID-19 can remain infectious on surfaces for up to 28 days.
With many offices sharing high-touch equipment
such as printers and copiers, it is crucial to keep on top of cleaning and disinfecting, as well as enforcing hand washing, to prevent the transmission of these harmful germs across shared surfaces.
How to Clean a Printer
Turn off the printer at the switch and put on a pair of single use gloves prior to cleaning.
Slightly dampen a microfibre cloth (or a paper towel) with warm water to gently clean the outside of the printer and remove any visible dirt and smudges. Take care to prevent any form of moisture from entering the printer.
When cleaning the touch panel, gently wipe in one direction to prevent streaks or scratching to the surface.
Never spray anything directly onto the printer, if you choose to use a glass cleaner (for particularly soiled printers) then make sure to spray a little glass cleaner onto the cloth first.
Use a second microfibre cloth (or paper towel) to remove any remaining moisture and ensure that the printer is fully dry before turning it on again.
How to Disinfect a Printer
Many disinfectants, such as Isopropyl alcohol, can be harmful
to your printer and cause discoloration if they are used incorrectly.
These types of disinfectants can also be highly flammable, which can provide a risk when used around electronics.
At MMCS Commercial Cleaning, we recommend cleaning your printer daily and investing in an Airburst disinfectant system
to place next to the printer. The Airburst system is controlled by either an app or a remote, and can be stationed at a high-traffic place in the office, such as the printer, to kill 99.9999% of bacteria spores and viruses
in the air and surrounding surfaces within seconds.
The Airburst system uses HOCl, a natural disinfectant solution
made by adding electricity to water, creating a safer disinfectant for humans, pets and the environment.
