The hills have two clear routes for visitors to follow. The green markers show the shortest route of one mile while the ridge walk uses red markers to take walkers through the forest to the top of Simonside Crags. The red route requires sturdy footwear but walkers can enjoy stunning scenery across the hills before heading back down to the historical Hillfort.
There is also an option to enjoy the Simonside Hills Circular Walk which covers 7.1 miles over through woodlands, rocky crags, and hills.
There is a car park on site. The address is Morpeth NE65 7NW.
This picturesque walk is family-friendly and accessible, taking an average of an hour to complete. You'll even have the opportunity to spot a range of wildlife such as heron, red kits, red squirrels and otters when crossing the River Beamish. Start at Ingram Valley Visitor Centre and follow the signposted easy trail along the River Breamish and past Reaveley Farm.
The postcode for Reaveley Farm is NE66 4LT and parking can be found at Ingram Bridge car park.
The entirety of Hadrian's wall covers approximately 73 miles, but you can opt for a shorter circular walk to take in Northumberland's stunning scenery. One option to view parts of the wall while staying close to local villages is to walk from Steel Rigg to Housesteads. Housesteads Roman Fort is well preserved and worth a good look round, and you can opt to circle back on your walk afterwards or get a local bus back to the car park.
Parking is available at The National Landscape Discovery Centre NE47 7AN.
